Arizona Institute for Resilience

Solutions for Environment and Society

Changing the world starts at home. Join us as we chart the course towards a more vibrant, sustainable planet.

We turn science into actionable, community-oriented solutions. Our focus is resilience, the practice of designing environmental and social systems to anticipate and integrate with global change.

Grounded in the sciences, we bring together researchers, educators, problem-solvers, and innovators from diverse disciplines – engineering, humanities, economics, public policy, law, the arts, and beyond – to develop innovative and practical solutions to the environmental and resilience challenges we all face.

Apply for the AIR Annual Resilience Theme Grant

AIR’s Annual Resilience Theme Grant asks an interdisciplinary team to propose a single resilience topic around which they will develop creative and inspiring events and activities for the 2025–2026 academic year. One team will be awarded up to $100,000 in TRIF Water, Environmental, and Energy Solutions (WEES) funding for fiscal year 2026. U of A faculty, continuing-eligible and continuing-status academic professionals, postdocs, and/or research staff across all disciplines and levels are eligible.

Proposals are due by April 30

Resilient Arizona Grants

AIR is offering 12-month Resilient Arizona grants for activities that advance the Institute’s mission of supporting inter- and transdisciplinary collaborative research, including with off-campus partners, to develop practical, applied solutions that further resilience in natural and human communities in the State of Arizona and beyond. Research projects should pertain to one of the programmatic investment areas in the WEES initiative and contribute to the current and future resilience of the State of Arizona. We encourage proposals from any discipline on campus and encourage creativity.
